Why a Chinese Invasion of Taiwan Will Fail and Why Defense of Taiwan is Necessary.
There are several reasons why China cannot be allowed to invade Taiwan. The most obvious is that Taiwan is a near monopoly of the manufacture of advanced semiconductors and computer chips. If China were able to control Taiwan, they could cut off the supply of these chips and destroy the economy of any nation it chose.
China would also be able to near control trade lanes from the Strait of Malacca all the way to the Japanese Island Chain which could cripple global free trade. Make no mistake, China would use this advantage as a weapon. The United States and its allies keep those trade lanes open for all.
China has an impressive rocket force that can do significant damage to our military assets in the Pacific, but our missile defense abilities combined with the fact that China lacks the ability to project power due to a lack of air refueling capability would doom China’s war effort.
The video below from GeoPolitico explains reasonably well what a conflict between Western forces and the CCP would look like.
