Trump: CBS News should lose its broadcast license for selectively editing Kamala Harris 60 Minutes interview.
Is he right?
PoliticalArena readers are well aware that we are steadfast believers and supporters of the First Amendment. That said freedom of speech does not mean freedom of amplification at the expense of the US taxpayer.
Broadcast over the airwaves via limited TV/Radio spectrum that belongs to the people of the United States in not a right at all. The entire idea of the First Amendment is that so the press could act as a neo-fourth branch of government to help keep the government transparent and accountable to the people.
In short, to have a broadcast license, the law is clear that broadcasters must operate in the public interest. President John F. Kennedy said this best:
Ironic how YouTube censored (with an age restriction) this video about the importance of free speech. It speaks volumes.
But today, by and large the corporate press acts in the interest of big donors such as Blackrock, State Street, Vangard and Big Pharma.
Below is an example of how 60 minutes deceptively edited the Harris interview to make her look better.
Jesse Watters, Megyn Kelly and former CBS Chief national security Correspondent Catherine Herridge called out CBS:
Just what else did CBS deceptively edit? Catherine Herridge called them out for refusing to release the full transcript.
Conversely, CBS News edited out the substantive parts of Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s answers.
This is also what ABC and other corporate news outlets did to Sarah Palin. They edited out the substantive parts of her answers to make her look unsophisticated.
When VP Biden’s daughter was caught on film with cocaine, ABC, CBS, and NBC offered no coverage. When “Biden” and “Cocaine” are searched on the NBC site it presented readers a picture of Bristol Palin.
Is this anything close to what the law demands about operating in the public interest? We agree with President Trump. CBS should lose its broadcast license and be relegated to cable just like CNN.
