When Mike Johnson was voted in as Speaker of the House, we were optimistic, dare we say a bit hopeful. As it stands today, any benefit of the doubt we had for his leadership has been used up.
Today we wonder if Speaker Johnson is duplicitous or just stupid.
We sided with Speaker Johnson as he put forth a short term “clean CR” as he did not have time to put forth a proper budget using regular order. Since that time what we have seen is one broken promise and foolish move after another.
The expulsion of George Santos, as we explained HERE, was off the chart’s stupid. Santos had one of the most conservative, anti-establishment voting records ever seen in the House. Santos has not been found guilty of anything and what he was accused of were small time FEC violations for which he should have just paid the fine for and moved on.
Santos was a guaranteed vote to impeach Joe Biden, fiscal responsibility and a guaranteed vote for genuine FISA reform.
There are Democrats in Congress facing grave accusations and no action is being taken against them. Republicans in the House could not even muster the votes to impeach DHS Secretary Mayorkas after what he has done with the border and lied about it repeatedly under oath.
With Kevin McCarthy resigning from Congress the Republican majority is razor thin.
Speaker Johnson should not have allowed the vote to expel Santos on to the floor.
FISA reform is a priority for reform minded Republicans and the few remaining Democrats who view the Fourth Amendment as something more than just a suggestion.
The corrupt FISA Court has been an active participant in illegal domestic surveillance of the American people. The spying tools authorized by FISA have been used to illegally spy on Congress, on President Trump’s campaign, on defense attorneys so that defendants cannot get a fair trial, and even against the “girlfriends” of FBI agents.
There is so much abuse of domestic spying tools that illegal spying has become widespread normal practice.
Speaker Johnson serves on the Judiciary Committee and is well aware of all of this. After promising FISA reform for as long as he has been in the public eye, he has done a complete reversal on the issue and offered Democrats a “clean” extension of FISA powers.
This video of Speaker Johnson promising FISA reform on December 10th has vanished from YouTube and Twitter. We were able to find it on TikTok for which we promptly made a backup:
Johnson has made a deal with Democrats to tagging on a FISA extension to the NDAA vote. Marjorie Taylor Greene is furious:
To get a secondary source on this, we called “moderate” Republican Max Miller’s office who verified Greene’s comments above.
Johnson is locking key Republicans out of NDAA negotiations.
Come 2024 it is time for a new Speaker.
