Judge to January 6th Detainee: You did not break any laws or enter the Capitol, but your views and statements amount to "seditious conspiracy"
George Orwell call your office...
Editor’s Note: This piece is not about “defending” Stuart Rhodes or anyone else, it is about standing up for the rule of law, specifically the First Amendment. The Biden Administration seems hellbent on criminalizing political speech.
Legacy media has not been covering the facts, but many are aware that many January 6th detainees have been kept in the DC Jail without bail and in solitary confinement for minor offenses. Pro-abortion protestors and protestors against Justice Kavanaugh breached the Capitol multiple times and most were let go with no penalty or a virtual slap on the wrist.
We know from recently released video that police let protestors in the Capitol Building and the overwhelming majority of them were peaceful.
This brings us to the case of Stuart Rhodes, an attorney who was a leader of the Oath Keepers group. Rhodes and his allies protected people from ANTIFA on January 6th, they also aided police who were under threat, exculpatory evidence which the judge illegally kept out of the trial.
Judge Amit Priyavadan Mehta made it very clear in his statements at sentencing that while Rhodes broke no laws on January 6th and admitted that the Oath Keepers as a civic organization had done some good, Rhodes’ political views and statements after the fact, which are constitutionally protected opinions, amounted to a seditious conspiracy and then sentenced Rhodes to 18 years in jail.
Judge Mehta’s statements and application of the law turn the First Amendment on its head. The Supreme Court has made it clear in dozens of cases what speech is constitutionally protected. Many believe that the Supreme Court will eventually overturn many of these lawless rulings by Washington DC District Court Judges.
The Biden Department of Justice/FBI and these power mad judges are hoping to set a precedent. They seem to believe that since Rhodes is at times similar to Alex Jones in his rhetoric the American people will find him distasteful and allow this injustice to happen. This is a lawfare attack on protected political speech.
Famed defense attorney Robert Gouveia reads and explains the sentencing transcript in the video below. This is a must see. When you listen to the Judge Mehta’s words it seems impossible that this is happening in America
Liz Wheeler and Julie Kelly cover Judge Mehta’s outrageous conduct.
