AG Ken Paxton Found Not Guilty by Texas Senate - UPDATED!
Voters need to fix the corrupt Texas House of Representatives.
There are times when one must have deference to both sides of an argument. This is not one of those times.
Texas has a real problem in the state House of Representatives. Democrats, aligned with the Bush uniparty crowd, have run as grass roots Republicans and as soon as they arrive in Austin, they vote like Democrats and even vote for Democrats to chair key committees. Then they go back home and tell you how conservative they are hoping that you, the voter, did not pay attention.
The Speaker of the Texas House Dade Phelan is not just corrupt, not just dishonest to his core, but he is a drunkard.
Attorney General Ken Paxton has been one of the most effective state attorney generals in the country pushing back against the Biden Administration in court. In his last election George Prescott Bush was his primary opponent. Bush was defeated handily.
The Texas House, at the prompting of Bush aligned donors, pushed the “Republican” controlled House to impeach Ken Paxton “Nancy Pelosi” style.
They bucked all precedent and House Rules. They rushed it through with less than 24 hours' notice over a holiday weekend, brought in hearsay witnesses, refused to put them under oath, no cross examination was allowed. Paxton was not allowed counsel.
State Representative John Smithee gave a masterful speech on the House floor explained how the impeachment process lacked integrity, evidence, and violated all precedent.
It is not just President Trump who called out Bush aligned donors for pulling this stunt. Many well-connected attorneys such as Robert Barnes and others within the state have stated this on the record.
Under cross examination under oath, House witnesses admitted they went to the FBI and accused Attorney General Paxton with no evidence, admitting that “they felt he was guilty.”
The Texas Senate followed the rules of evidence and after a lengthy trial found General Paxton not guilty.
At the end of the impeachment trial, Lt Gov. Dan Patrick commented chastised the House for using such a grossly flawed process that cost the taxpayers millions. Lt. Gov. Patrick promised to push for a new constitutional amendment in the Texas Constitution forcing the House to use standard rules of evidence for any future impeachment so such a sham cannot happen again:
