There has been an important update on this story. It had been previously reported that there were 15 million people who were collecting Social Security benefits who were over the age of 120. There has been an update. Upon further investigation it seems that over 80% of that number were database false positives as the Social Security database uses ancient COBOL programming which dates back to 1959.
Even so, if 15% of the cases are valid, that is still over two million people, not an insignificant number. Of course we cannot forget that there is still massive fraud with the dead collecting benefits, fake Social Security numbers in the system and identity theft.
